The iconic Pumphouse Hotel has changed its name

In 1987, a pioneer in the themed Hotel game, Betty Jenkins, took a tired and run-down St Andrews Hotel and renamed it as patrons for the last 30 years have known it as The Pumphouse Hotel.

Upon upgrading the façade of the Hotel recently, the current owners Tony and Anna Vujic discovered the embedded logo of the original name of the Hotel. Coupled with a major renovation to the bar and dining area in late 2017, this brought about the decision of re-naming. 

Our new branding for the St Andrews Hotel incorporates the Ancient Legend of the Celtic “Tree of Life”. The tree, amongst other things, is the symbol of rebirth, strength and friendship which are all qualities the Hotel possesses now and has done in its 150-year history.

We will always respect and fondly remember the years as The Pumphouse Hotel, although at the same time we will embrace the history of the Hotel and continue our journey as a new and exciting venue now known as the St Andrews Hotel.  

Over recent years we have set an enviable standard in hospitality as one of Melbourne’s finest Hotels. Winning multiple awards in various categories through the Australian Hotels Association, and the Australian Bridal Awards for Excellence. Palana Beach House has two very comfortable queen size bedrooms that are attached to the main house by an external undercover walkway. It has a large open living area that is clad in beautiful celery top pine timber on the internal walls and ceiling, making for a warm, comfortable environment.

We have furnished the house to ensure all modern comforts are on hand. There is an excellent hotplate BBQ outside. Modern conveniences allow cooking with ease as well as the domestics (fridge, bread making machine, all cooking utensils to make a delicious home-cooked meal, washing machine, etc.).

You can relax, read a book and sip a red wine on the deck whilst marvelling at the ocean and the Inner and Outer Sister Islands just off the coast. Time, and worries of the rest of the world, will melt away as the serenity of this beautiful location captures you. At night the wallabies come to do the lawn mowing quietly. During the day, you often see echidnas wandering in the garden and sea eagles flying low over the front deck looking for their next meal.
